Bees are vital to Earth's ecosystem primarily because of their role in pollination, essential for the reproduction of around 75% of the world's flowering plants, including many crops crucial for human consumption. However, the decline in bee populations is alarming, driven significantly by climate change and pesticide usage. Climate change affects bees by altering flowering times and habitats, leading to mismatches in food availability and increased exposure to extreme weather conditions. Pesticides, particularly neonicotinoids, can be lethal to bees, harming their ability to forage, reproduce, and sustain their colonies. This combination of factors not only endangers bee populations but also risks the collapse of ecosystems relying on their pollination services, compromising biodiversity, agricultural productivity, and ultimately, global food security.
